Today’s post is actually a response to a question from a Tribe member. She was wondering how fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids) might help with joint pain. This is a great question, so I decided to share the answer with you.
Healthy fats (especially omega-3s!) help promote an appropriate inflammatory response in the body. Inflammation is typically seen as a bad thing, when in actuality the body’s inflammatory response is one that’s needed and not entirely bad. The problem lies in our terrible diets; we screw up the body’s ability to produce an appropriate level of inflammation by eating way too many bad fats and not enough healthy fats.
Researchers at the National Institute of Health have stated it plainly –
“The billions we (Americans) spend on anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen is money spent to undo the effects of too much omega-6 fat in the diet.”
Translation: balance out your fatty acid intake by eating more “Hero fats” (as I call them) and less bad fats and there’s a good chance you will need much less anti-inflammatory medication.
Hopefully this is as helpful for you as it was for her.
There are some good Omega-3 supplements on the market, but we’re partial to our product 😉 You can purchase it by clicking this link or at Tribe.
If you have any nutrition-related questions, fire them our way and I’ll happily address them. I guarantee somebody else probably has the same question you have.
