Soy sucks.
Okay, okay, maybe that’s a bit strong worded. Let me rephrase – Soy is not my protein powder of choice. That’s not the case with food manufacturers.
Soy protein is everywhere, because it’s cheap and has a mild taste. It’s added to a ton of supplements and food in order to increase protein content. This is unfortunate, because it’s a low-grade protein that contains compounds (phytoestrogens, trypsin inhibitors, and others) that may cause unwanted effects in both men and women.
Should you avoid soy like the plague? Not necessarily. A little here or there, especially if it’s unprocessed soybeans, should be just fine. However, I recommend that processed soy (soy protein powders, soy milk, and even tofu) NOT be a part of your daily nutrition.
